What to wear to a concert

In recent times there has been a new season added to the women’s fashion calendar. We don’t just have spring/summer and autumn/winter anymore. We now have the festival season, which is the trends specifically designed for your time standing in a field watching music. With such attention being paid to what to wear to a festival that got us thinking about what we wear for going to music events. In this blog we’ll give you some hints and tips on how to dress when going to a concert.

The first thing to consider when you’re dressing for a concert is what genre you’re going to see. If you dress inappropriately you’ll look like a fish out of water, so we’re going to look at some genres and how to dress appropriately.

Have great fun channelling your inner rock chick when you dress up for a rock show. Rock is all about not caring how you look, so make it look like you don’t care by wearing a rocker t-shirt, distressed jeans and trainers for an edgy carefree look. Accessorise with edgy jewellery like a choker and grunge up your makeup to the max with a dark lipstick, bold winged eyeliner and accentuate your brows.

Hip Hop/R&B

If you’re dressing for hip hop or R&B you definitely don’t want to go full ghetto, eugh. A style inspiration to look at would be Kim Kardashian, who gets it right on the balance between revealing and covering up, allowing you enough freedom to move to the music. Try an oversized hoody, sweater or long sleeves with bike shorts and boots. If you don’t think bike shorts are for you try a pair of ripped boyfriend jeans and cover up with a bomber jacket for a classic look.

Everyone loves pop, and if they say they don’t, they’re lying or they have a massive black hole where their heart should be and no soul. We recommend wearing something simple, feminine and girly that lets you dance to the music. Try a skater dress or high waisted jeans paired with a pair of sneakers. Pair the jeans with a crop top or a t-shirt of your favourite act. If you need a jacket, wear a denim one that looks great, but isn’t too hot when you’re at the concert.

EDM is about self-expression so you can go wild when you go to an EDM or electronic gig. You can wear anything or as little as you want. Metallics, neons and anything else bold are great for EDM shows. Bodysuits, crop tops and shorts are great. Pair a bodysuit with denim cutoffs or a denim skirt and pair it with some trainers. The bigger the better, including the trend for ugly trainers. Add a bum bag for a practical way to ditch the handbag.

Country concerts are difficult to judge because it’s a fine line between a cowgirl and looking glamorous like Dolly Parton. Fringes, denim and stacked heels are all very country. Shirts are a good look, either in plaid or a two-tone shirt with fringe details. Hats make a country outfits sing. Choose a Stetson or a felt hat to complement your outfit. A classic country look that doesn’t look like you’ve just come off the ranch is to wear a lacy dress with a fringed jacket and knee-high boots.
